Who needs it
Care workers, support workers, senior carers and registered managers across all adult social care settings. The people care staff support can be vulnerable to radicalisation precisely because of isolation, cognitive impairment or the wish to belong — and staff themselves are well placed to notice worrying changes. The course covers what radicalisation actually looks like in a care context, and what to do about a concern. Completion is recorded with the date taken and the date it is next due, so it appears correctly on your training matrix.
What the learner receives

About 35 min of e‑learning, across 7 sections with 10 assessment questions. Learners can stop and resume at any point, and it works on a phone.
Is Prevent Duty Awareness CPD Aligned, and how is it assessed?
Yes — the certificate carries the CPD Aligned seal. The assessment is multiple choice with a pass mark of 70%; attempts are recorded and learners can retake it. Renewal defaults to 12 months from the completion date — your organisation can set 24 or 36 months per course — so it reappears on your training matrix when it is due.
Why does a care service need Prevent training?
Because vulnerability to radicalisation is a safeguarding issue, and the risk factors — isolation, loss, cognitive impairment, the search for identity and belonging — describe many people receiving care. Staff who see someone daily are the people most likely to notice concerning change, and the course teaches what to notice and where a concern goes.
Does the course teach staff to report people for their beliefs?
No, and it says so plainly. Holding radical or extreme views is not illegal and is not what Prevent is about. The concern is exploitation — someone being drawn towards supporting or committing violence — and the response is safeguarding support for the person, not punishment.
Is this about one ideology?
No. The course covers radicalisation across the spectrum, including extreme right-wing, religiously-motivated and other ideologies, because exploitation works the same way whatever the cause it dresses in.
Does this count towards the Care Certificate?
No — it is a standalone course that complements the safeguarding standards rather than replacing any of them.
