For home care providers

Domiciliary care training for home care teams

Written for registered managers of CQC-regulated domiciliary agencies

Domiciliary care is care delivered alone, in someone else's home, with no colleague in the next room. The training that keeps a care home safe is not quite the training that keeps a home care visit safe — and your matrix needs to show an inspector you know the difference.

The starter set below covers the core for a domiciliary carer, at £3.99 a course with no subscription, or from £1.99 per learner a month for all 82 courses.

What makes home care training different

Three things set domiciliary work apart, and each has its own course rather than a paragraph buried in a generic one.

Your carers work alone. Millions of UK care visits happen every day with no colleague nearby, so Lone Working is core training rather than an extra: dynamic risk assessment on the doorstep, check-in systems, travelling between visits and what to do when a situation feels wrong. The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 applies to lone workers exactly as it does to everyone else — the employer's duty does not stay in the office.

The workplace is someone's home. Working in Someone's Home covers what no care home course needs to: being a guest and a professional at once, boundaries with the person and their family, respecting the home and keeping standards without a manager down the corridor.

Decisions are made solo. A carer who spots a pressure sore, a medication error or a safeguarding concern on a visit cannot call down the corridor. That is why Safeguarding Adults, Medication Awareness and Record Keeping & Care Planning sit in the core set — the record a carer writes at 8pm may be the only account anyone has of that visit.

This is the set most home care providers assign first — the Skills for Care core topics plus the two courses written for care in a private home. Our mandatory training guide explains who needs what and the law behind each topic.

Pay as you go, this starter set is 12 credits × £3.99 = £47.88 per carer, with no subscription and no minimum order. Or put the whole team on a subscription from £1.99 per learner a month and every course in the catalogue is included.

The table is generated from the live catalogue, so lengths and CPD statuses are always current. Every certificate is issued in the learner's own name and can be checked by anyone at verify a certificate.

Beyond the core

Depending on the people you support, most agencies add Dementia Awareness, Falls Prevention, Catheter & Continence Care, Pressure Ulcer Prevention and End of Life Care. New starters work through the Care Certificate — all 16 standards as one guided course — during their induction.

Refreshers that survive the rota

Home care training fails quietly: the carer whose safeguarding lapsed in March is still on the rota in June, because nobody stands in the same office twice a week to notice. Care2Learn treats the renewal date as part of the record — training is valid for 12 months by default, the account owner can set any course to 24 or 36 months to match your policy, and carers are reminded before anything lapses, then chased until it is done. Courses run on a carer's own phone and save their place as they go, so a module finished in two sittings between visits still counts once, and the matrix shows the moment the whole team is green again.

Evidence for your CQC inspection

Every completion lands on your training matrix with the date taken and the date it is next due, carers are chased automatically before training lapses, and the compliance report downloads as a PDF or CSV with your CQC number on it. Records imported from a previous provider count too, marked with their source.

Registered members of the Homecare Association get 10% off team subscriptions — see pricing. Self-employed carers can buy their own training from £3.99 a course.
